Monday Morning Musings

Historic Ballparks American Baseball by geministudio

Historic Ballparks American Baseball by geministudio

My dad was a big baseball fan and use to take us to night games at Comiskey Park in Chicago.  We lived on the north side of the city, so by all rights, we should have been Cubs fans.  Anyone who knows anything about Chicago knows that northsiders root for the Cubs, and southsiders root for the White Sox!  There was only one problem – the Cubs did not play night games at Wrigley Field.  Sooooo, we would drive across the city to Mama Batt’s Restaurant on Michigan Avenue and Cermak Road where we would have a delicious early dinner.  Then we would all pack into the restaurant bus and be driven to the ballpark.  (I think that I was out of college before I attended my first Cubs game.)

So, it should come as no surprise that I begin our America’s pastime journey with a tribute to the White Sox and the Cubs.  According to Alvin Dark, former shortstop and major league manager, “Every player should be accorded the privilege of at least one season with the Chicago Cubs.  That’s baseball as it should be played – in God’s own sunshine.  And that’s really living.”

eileenheneghan designed this Chicago Cubs bracelet that comes with a matching set of sterling silver earrings.

What better way to support the home team than by dressing your favorite pooch in baseball gear.  Here is a Red Sox dog coat by sewwer52.

I am almost certain that any birds flying by this fabulous NY Yankees birdhouse by birdhouseaccents would be more than confident to stop for the night – kind of like driving on the Interstate and spotting a sign for a Hampton Inn.  You know that you will always find a comfortable bed with great pillows.

  3. Foxy, my hubby says hullo and that he was happy I got to meet you yesterday! I think he grew up on the South Side of Chicago but I’ll have to ask him who he was cheering for but he’s never been a big baseball person.

Love the undies — people will wear anything on their booty eh?

    And yes, sock monkey!!!

  4. Foxy,

Thanks for sharing the memories and including my Sox earrings in your article.

I was born on the north side, we went to both Cubs and Sox games. I am not big into sports, myself and don’t have a preference about either Chicago team. I think all Chicago teams should win. LOL.
