Monday Morning Musings

Now, I would never refer to an artist’s object de’art as outrageous (at least not in front of him or her *smile*).  However, when that artist refers to his or her own masterpiece as “outrageous,” I’m off to the races!  So, let’s take an outrageous journey through etsy listings.  And I swear, I didn’t make any of these up…

At Sweet Excess, they stand firmly in their beliefs that there is NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH jewelry, attitude or style.  And you most certainly can never have too much fun.  This bracelet is made up of 11 sterling rings, along with a rainbow line of raw, untreated genuine gemstone nuggets, contrasting Swarovski and Celestial faceted crystals and large Swarovski milk pearls and crystal headpins.

According to Numpty, these outrageous orange brick Lego cufflinks are the perfect excuse to indulge your childhood!  “Flat plate” Lego bricks have been fixed to silver plated cufflinks to make this definitely different, definitely cool pair that will make you stand out in a crowd.

According to GlampireDesign, this bundle of hat almost defies description.  Six feet of ivory-bone coque feathers, which have been fashioned into a flower, surround two silk brown roses and one silk moss-green rose.  These are sitting on a silky brown and ivory feather pad and then fastened securely to a teardrop sinamay base with comb and elastic strap attached.  A more concise description would be simply GLAMOROUS…

This Steampunk adjustable cuff bracelet by edmdesigns features a large aged brass butterfly finding with ornate scroll designs detailing the long, elegant wings. The butterfly was hand-painted with in an orange/rust color, but still reveals the brass underneath.

These NUTrageous Outrageous Earrings by HarrieteEstelBerman are constructed from recycled tin containers.  They are sure to bring lots of sweet fun to your social life.  They are clip on earrings, (not everyone has pierced ears) but if you fall in love with them, the artist is willing to change them to pierced.

According to liaison, this one-of-a-kind costume piece titled, “NO MORE TEARS,”  was custom made for the FABULOUS Rock Star Courtney Love.  It has a base of silk dupioni and is lined in burgundy silk velvet.  It has hand-dyed silk tulle with buried mirrors shaped like tears, buried mirrors shaped like musical notes, rosettes and a variety of vintage and modern beads, charms, buttons and bits of lace and sequins.  It has an overlay of blue vintage birdcage veiling.  In the photo the silk tulle appears to be white, but actually it is hand-dyed periwinkle blue. There is a variety of feathers in rich brown, blues, turquoise, plum, scarlet and a hint of chartreuse.   You choose the clor scheme and/or theme for your custom made LUXE headband that will be made with vintage beading and sequins, upcycled fabric, vintage lace and feathers.

Finally, all the artists and artisans featured up to this point have referred to their own items as “outrageous.”  And while VanityDesign called this next item merely “silly,” I am going out on a limb and calling it fabulously outrageous!

  3. Fun picks! When I first saw the butterfly, I thought it was a ring. Not all that outrageous, but as a cuff bracelet, yes outrageous! Love the Glampire hat!

  6. Thanks for the “shout out”, outrageous is a way of life at Sweet Excess and we find fun in all our jewelry as well as everything else. Develope a sense of fun and an appreciation for the outrageous, or as we call it OTT (over the top)and you’ll find life can be a little less stressful. For us, it is a great way to not to take ourselves so serioiusly and enjoy so many wonderful and unexpected things. By the way, loved every other listing, especially the sock monkey. I’m so glad other people worry about them……….Karen
